Word to the wise: never fucking break up with my best friend. Because then angry!Lindsay will come out and we never want that to happen. What an asshole.

The only good thing to come out of this? A flawless hour+ long video chat date that just reminded me why Patti is my best friend and why she is so perfect and why no matter how much shit we are dealing with, I’ll always have her to fall back on.

I bought Fahrenheit 451 today and I (finally) wrote a first draft for my catharsis piece this month.  And I am really happy because I can finally read this book I’ve heard so much about and that charmed me with the first few sentences — “It was a pleasure to burn.  It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed.  With the brass nozzle in his fists, with this great python spitting its venomous kerosene upon the world, the blood pounded in his head, and his hands were the hands of some amazing conductor playing all the symphonies of blazing and burning to bring down the tatters and charcoal ruins of history” — and because I remembered that I am not a complete and utter failure at writing and maybe taking two writing classes next semester won’t be a disaster.

And Daniella will be meeting me in Houston on Tuesday and Lindsay is my beautiful scarlet woman — but shhh, don’t tell Manny or Patti or Danielle for that matter.  Shit, I have a lot of competition, don’t I? — and Lauren wants me to bring the sunshine back up to New England and I will, I promise, in the form of Best Friend who never fails to make me smile and Neville Longbottom who loves me (sometimes) and possibly a Katy, but we will have to wait and see for that one.

And sure life sucks sometimes.  Because sometimes you fuck up something simple like making spaghetti sauce or chocolate pudding and sometimes your car breaks down when you really, really wish it wouldn’t and sometimes people you swore you could never live without become people you live without day after day after day.  But sometimes you make your mother laugh when you least expect it and sometimes you wear outfit and the weather cooperates and sometimes you make the two-hour drive up to Austin to spend the day with people you never imagined would end up meaning so much to you when you first met them six years ago.

Because life can be pretty damn awesome, too.
